How to Use Chess Clock
How to use the clock
- Choose a preset or select Custom and set each side's time.
- Activate the clock for the side that moves first.
- After a move, activate the running clock to add its increment and start the opponent.
- Use Pause, Lock, Resume, or New Game with the labeled controls.
Clock features
- Presets set the same starting time and increment for both players; custom clocks can differ.
- Only activate the running side to switch turns; a locked clock ignores panel switches.
- Fischer increment is added once to the player who switches away from their clock.
- Pause stops the active clock. Lock prevents panel switches while time keeps running.
- Running and paused games are saved on this device and restored after a reload.
Tips
- A clock reaching zero is flagged; the app does not decide the game result.
- Flag sound is optional and off by default. Visible and accessible flag feedback works without sound.
Use Tab to focus a clock panel and Enter or Space to activate it. Press Escape to close Help or cancel a new-game confirmation.
Start a new game?
This will reset both clocks and end the current game. Your selected time control and sound preference will be kept.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I start the chess clock?
- Choose a time control, then activate the side that moves first.
- How does the increment work?
- When a running player switches the clock after a move, that player's configured increment is added once.
- Can White and Black have different time controls?
- Yes. Select Custom to set a separate starting time and increment for each side.
- Will my game survive a page reload?
- The game is saved on this device and restored when you return. A running clock accounts for time since its last saved checkpoint.
- Does the app record moves or show a chessboard?
- No. This is a two-player clock only; make and record moves on a separate chessboard.
